Acronis Backup & Recovery 10
Offers much more than the ability to image a server:
-
Disk Imaging
-
Differential and Incremental backups
-
Backup individual files and folders
-
Bare metal restore of servers
-
Scheduling of backups
-
Ability to restore to different hardware, (providing optional Acronis Universal Restore is used).
-
Ability to restore physical to virtual, or virtual to physical servers, (again providing optional Acronis Universal Restore is used).
-
Central management console
-
Remote Installation and configuration.
-
Remote Restore
The main advantage of imaging is that in the event that a server needs to be restored it can be achieved much quicker than with a traditional backup system, which could easily take up to a full day.
Universal Restore
With Acronis the recovery windows in most cases would be within a couple of hours depending on the nature of the problem. Also if in the event the original server had suffered a hardware failure - with the Universal Restore option the server could be restored to a virtual machine or to dissimilar hardware too. The Universal Restore option can also be used to allow migrations of servers to be much easier and quicker.
Typically a full image of the servers will be taken each weekend and differential backups taken each night before the main tape backup process begins.
